You depart OR Tambo by shared shuttle, approximately six hours to Hoedspruit. After check-in and lunch at the lodge, the Rietspruit Big 5 Game Reserve field guide collects you for your first drive. The sunset safari takes you into the reserve as the afternoon heat drops and the light shifts. Lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, cheetah, and wild dog are all resident on the 5,500-hectare property. Your Shinzelle guide collects you early for the 45-60 minute drive to Orpen Gate. Central Kruger is one of the most productive wildlife areas on the continent. Your guide knows the waterholes, the seasonal movements, and the dense riverine bush where leopard hold. The vehicle is open-sided with full sight-lines, elevated above the grass. Mid-morning, your guide stops at a scenic rest stop inside the park where your lodge-packed breakfast is served. Safari continues after breakfast, working through the park until a lunch break at a main rest camp. You are back on the road after lunch until you exit through the gate at around 15:00.
